Abstract In this study, AA 5251 aluminium alloys have welded using different stirrer geometry by friction stir welding process. In the experiments the stirrer spindle speed and feed rate were chosen 1000 rev/min and 200 mm/rev respectively. The weld zones were investigated by optical microscopy; tensile strength and microhardness were investigated. Finally, it is observed that the microstructures of welded samples are changing according to the stirrer geometry. The most strength welding process can be achieved by square pyramid stirrer while the cone stirrer gives the worst results. It was concluded that the pure material had better strength than whole welded specimens for all stirrer. . Keywords: Friction Stir Welding, AA 5251, Stirrer Geometry
