Abstract Cross-sectional area of air existing of fans used in air handling units is smaller than cross-sectional area of chambers which are located next to the fan such as heating/cooling coils, silencer (muffler), filter or heat recovery elements. To make the air handling unit work efficiently, it is required that the air is blown through fan diffuses with as low as possible pressure loss and homogen velocity distribution. Emptychambers with perforated V-profile diffuser is used to diffuse from small cross-sectional area to large cross sectional area. In this study, an empty chamber with perforated diffuser whose geometry is square based truncated pyramid is used. In this case, it is numerically investigated that both diffusion of air to the next unit and pressure loss caused by empty chamber with perforated V-profile diffuser for different peakangle, hole geometry and porosity
