Abstract Present study investigates the normalization heat treatment on mechanical properties of MIG welded S275 JR steel, which is commonly preferred for steel constructions. Normalization heat treatment was applied at 880 and 900 °C for 25 and 40 minutes. In order to determine the effect of heat treatment, microstructural examination, micro hardness, impact and tensile tests were applied. It was observed that tensile strength reduced and impact resistance increased after normalization of welded specimens. Test results showed that the welded sample normalized at 900 °C for 40 minutes exhibited superior mechanical properties.
