Abstract In this study, the interaction between brake pressure-wheel acceleration interaction occuring in brakings which ABS is activated on rough road was investigated with ABS tests which conducted on wet and slippery rough roads with hard, medium-hard and soft shock absorbers. During the tests, the wheel speed, brake pressure, the vertical axle acceleration and the effective rolling radius were measured, and the wheel acceleration, the brake pressure change rate and adhesion coefficient were calculated from these measured parameters. In the end of the investigations, it was determined that the brake pressure-wheel acceleration interaction showed differences with respect to the shock absorber damping capacity with the adherence potential of the road and ABS performance was improved with these differences. It was seen that the changes at road adherence potential were determined by the maximum and minimum value ranges which the brake pressure, the brake pressure change rate and the wheel acceleration took. It was also determined that the changes at the damping capacity depended on the maximum and minimum values of these parameters which was able to be changed with respect to hard, medium-hard and soft dampers. Consequently, it was seen that firstly the adhesion potential of the road must be determined and then, the damping capacity changes must be performed with respect to obtained from these road types to change the shock absorber damping capacity during braking with ABS using active and semi-active suspension system..
