Abstract The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of gasoline-biodiesel and gasoline-biodiesel-ethanol mixture on the performance and emissions of a single-cylinder SI engine. Experimental studies were carried out at full load and 1800 rpm constant engine speed with pure gasoline (G). Afterwards gasoline mixed, using Etahanol incrementally increased %5 percent from 5% to %20. Furthermore studies have been completed with preparing another mixtures which were prepared with B5 (5% biodiesel-95% Gasoline) and B10 (10% biodiesel-90% Gasoline) and Ethanol added to this mixtures incrementally increased 5 percent from 5% to 20%. Engine torque, fuel consumption and exhaust gas temperature were determined as a performance parameters; and CO, HC, NOx emissions and the air/fuel ratio (Lamda) values were determined for emission indicators. Both data were calculated with the avarage of two experimentally repead. Torque and power and specific fuel consumption (sfc) was calculated from the experimental data. As a result of this study, 10,5% decrease in torque and power and 13% increase in specific fuel consumption were determined with 10% biodiesel-gasoline mixure. At the same time, decreases small amount of CO emissions and increases on HC and NOx emissions were measured. 46% increase on NOx emissions were observed with 20% ethanol added to petrol and B5, although decrease 50% on performance and 47% on CO emissions were observed. The best performance and emissions were obtained when %15-20 Ethanol addet to B10. Keywords : SI engine; alternative fuel; biodiesel; ethanol; performance; emission.
