Abstract In this study, it is aimed that producing polymer-graphite composite bipolar plates which satisfy the bipolar plates production criteria by helping the water management in the PEMFC by using sodium bentonite additive. Bentonite expands to ten times of its dry mass when it is wet. It would help the absorption of the water from the surface of the fuel cell components such as gas diffusion layer, and the flow fields. Hence, possible water flooding could be prevented by a sodium bentonite/graphite-polymer composite bipolar plate. The composite plates were produced from the mixture of graphite powder, novalac resin and sodium bentonite by compression molding method. The water absorption capacities, the gas permeability, and the hidrofobicity values are presented here. Keywords: PEM fuel cell, bipolar plate, bentonite
